Scandinavian restraint with a playful edge
For Hotel Ruth in Stockholm, Dot developed a visual identity inspired by the fictional character of Ruth, said to have lived in the building during the 1920s and 1930s. Her imagined presence became the starting point for an identity that brings together the character of the house, the elegance of the era and the contemporary spirit of the boutique hotel.
At the heart of the identity is a distinctive logo built around Ruth herself. Art Deco references are woven into both the typography and the delicate line drawing of her character, creating a visual connection to the period in which Ruth is said to have lived there. The result is elegant and evocative without feeling nostalgic or overly literal.
The visual language balances Scandinavian restraint with warmer, more playful details. Refined typography, subtle graphic elements and the illustrated portrait of Ruth give the identity personality and a sense of intimacy, while allowing it to sit naturally within the hotel’s architecture, interiors and atmosphere.
The result is a contemporary identity with a story at its heart – rooted in the imagined history of the building, shaped by Art Deco influences and brought into the present with a distinctly Scandinavian sensibility. A brand expression that makes Hotel Ruth feel personal, memorable and full of character.
